When my children were around 8-10 years old, I introduced them to Tintin. Now I have an 8 year old grandson and I bought him all the Tintin books. He loves them! Tintin and his faithful dog Snowy are always chasing the bad guys and discovering dastardly plots. Tintin is a journalist and travels all over the world. His friend, Captain Haddock, is a hilarious character with a very low boiling point. Then there is Processor Calculus and assorted other characters that populate the books and keep the plot moving at a fast pace. The drawings of the books are appealing in their simplicity and the stories have an ageless quality that work well even in 2013. Highly recommend these books for the young and the young at heart!
