My original answer above says that the lapel mics I ordered did not work. CORRECTION: The Pyle unit requires a 3.5MM *MONO* input for any type of microphone to work with it. It took me until this week to figure it out. I recently ordered a Sony handheld microphone with with a 3.5mm MONO plug. IT WORKS PERFECTLY! (Pyle, you should really state this in the manual and in the product details.) I've since ordered a lapel mic with the 3.5mm mono plug.
