So here’s the deal: this wedge is longer on one side . . . that side buts up against the door and the short side buts up against the door jamb. You have to kind of wiggle it into place, but once you do that it does hold the door open very well. It seems to be sturdy enough - at least to keep my 2 yr old grandson from constantly closing the door to his playroom! So, there ya go! I hope this helps!
