I needed to send some commands to an RS-485 peripheral to provision it, and it worked perfectly. Its totally bus powered (but provides option for external 7-9vdc power on the RS-485 side). The most important thing when using RS-485 half duplex is fast control of the DE (driver enable) line. This thing handles it automatically and perfectly. Able to send RS-485 commands via terminal and when not sending it releases the transmit line quickly to switch back to receive (<1ms). I was originally contemplating putting one of these together out of a RS-485 transceiver IC, and piddling some TTL stuff together to handle the DE line switching, but for this price, I couldn't justify spending the time building it even if the components were free and sitting on the shelf.
