You will see a "radar"-type icon on the cap (even with the legs still collapsed). Must use the leg releases (opposite side of the under-frame) first to make the legs stand up > push the inside-frame/bottom of the battery cover *very very gently* over that radar icon in the battery cover molding toward the outside of the frame/up, and then the cap will come off. Positive on the batteries to the right inside, and then again *very very gently* replace battery cover - the snap-tight tabs seem incredibly fragile - by inserting the TOP SINGLE LARGE TAB first, then snapping down the other side of the cover (multiple tiny tabs/inside of the frame) second. It also has "legs" that unfold so the entire item can be placed over a book, newspaper, etc. for reading, so I'd imagine it will fit over an iPad also. I dont know what the bad reviews are about?I took video of this product because I had no problems with it.I didnt need instructions to figure it out - and it works really well. No glare- props up easily- magnifies very well. Absolute junk. Very flimsy, legs collapse when using it, can't get anything done with it standing unless you have th4 hands of a 5 year old, and the neck strap is a joke, a piece of string attached at opposite ends. The light is weak, when it's on, it shoots streaks of light into the magnifier, difficult to read by, and the switch broke after turning it on three times. The string for around the next might work for some just not for me. Very hard to clean if it gets dusty or dirty it's got all these grooves like a record but deeper.
