I just bought the new one that has ac backup power. The setup was easier than any other similar wi fi based product that I have ever used - excellent. The application on your phone for sensor data, alerts and such is very well designed and intuitive. I love the ability to change time scales on the data shown, and look at old data as well. The system is robust to power and wi-fi outages, always comes back online. With the lithium batteries, I get a year plus of life on the default once per hour data update. I used to pay over 30 dollars a month for a cellular network based product when I did not have wifi at my 2nd house. I decided to just take that money and use toward the cost of wi-fi and have all the other benefits of having wifi. (I own an HVAC company.) But I have run into an issue that no one can seem to help me out with... I have been running 10 temp sticks on my app with ZERO issues... I have now attempted to add an 11th and 12th device and "BATTERY 0% - REPLACE BATTERY" is now shown in app for BOTH. This leads me to believe that an app is LIMITED to 10 devices. I have multiple devices in stock and have now tried 5 different devices. (All with same result) I then took it a step further and removed an existing device and "POOF" the device that was number 11 suddenly WORKS. (Battery 100%) I then attempted to re-install device 10 that was removed and "POOF" BATTERY 0% - REPLACE BATTERY. This proves to me that it is NOT the device but is in fact a LIMIT of 10 devices which can be monitored. Why then, does the temp stick website claim you can monitor UNLIMITED devices??! This is going to affect my recommendations drastically. NOT HAPPY. **Q: So I understand, you purchase a "stick" for $149 - adding multiple "sticks" is he same flat fee of almost $150 - and they all communicate to same app?** A: Yes, multiple Temp Sticks can be managed through the same app. In my case, I have one Temp Stick in my Connecticut house, and another Temp Stick in my Florida home. Both report and are managed through my iPhone app. **Q: Is there a subscription for the device?** A: No separate subscription. Just need WiFi. Only cost is the device itself. It's really easy to set up, there's step-by-step instructions included and even somebody who is clueless like myself could do it. I did have a problem accessing the setup page but that's because I had a bad browser on my phone (Opera) and switching to a normal browser like Firefox fixed the logging in problem. When you open the app on your phone you get a nice graph of the temperature and humidity. You can pick the time range in days/weeks to look at it historically, including the last 24 hours. You can click on data points to see the exact temperature and humidity at that point but it also reports the highs, lows, and average. What I like is the simplicity of the app: no ads, no nagging, easy to use. It just shows you info and that's it, exactly as it should be. The software developers that made this thing should be commended for sticking with a "keep it simple" philosophy because it's so easy to use. About privacy you do have to register an account with Ideal Sciences (Temp Stick creator) but they don't want any info other than a user name and password. And you do have to give the Temp Stick device your WiFi password so it can join the network, which is understandable. I can't find any information about their privacy policy or security policy though -- no reason to doubt them and maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I would like to know more about that. My wish list for improvements would be: 1. Some way to pinch to zoom in/out on the graph and scroll left and right through it. 2. Able to look at the last N hours instead of 24 hours. These are minor issues though. For fridge users, my experience is that every time the door opens the humidity goes up, and if you accidentally leave the door ajar the humidity stays up. So the humidity graph is a great thing to check first to see when the door was open. Then check the temp graph at the same location. What I learned from using the Temp Stick is that my fridge is just fine, but putting warm food in really does make it work harder and I need to set the cooling level a little lower than I thought. I'd never know otherwise!
