Within a day of setting this on the countertop the cats learned that jumping up and landing on a bunch of plastic spikes is decidedly unpleasant -- and are now staying off ALL the countertops just in case there are more spikes up there. Is it worth $20? Well, it's just a mat of injection-molded plastic that probably didn't cost more than 50 cents to produce. One my cats is particularly clumsy and though he shows no fear it freaks me out when he hops up. This works pretty well. It doesn't hurt them, but they do mostly avoid the wall with this on it. Cut it up into strips and placed them end to end. Would be nice if there was a way to connect the segments built in. I had to grab some fishing wire and tie the pieces off.
