I received this delicious coffee at a discounted price in exchange for an unbiased opinion. I give this item five stars for the following reasons. My opinions are not influenced by price. All comments are my own, valid and I stand by them.I love coffee but am not a multiple cup per day drinker. I usually have just one 16 ounce mug each morning. More coffee, or coffee later in the day will keep me up, when I already have insomnia. I will frequently brew (my coffee maker grinds the beans before brewing) by putting less water per bean ratio to get a stronger blend. But with Coffee Negro Excelsior one big mug will take care of all your caffeine needs for the day and do it deliciously.This scrumptious dark roast whole bean coffee is fabulous. Talk about a high octane jolt with a smooth, rich no bitterness flavor! This is the best, I am not kidding, coffee I have ever had. I have drunk it for about five days running, and today I made half my normal amount, about 8 ounces instead of 16, because my engine can't keep running like a race car every day of the week! I could feel myself vibrating for the last several days, which was good because I had a lot to do, but bad, because when I went to settle at the end of the day, at 1:00 am my mind and body would not shut down. Granted it took me about three hours to finish my coffee (I have a really well insulated coffee to go mug), but I could not settle down almost 12 hours after drinking this yummy brew.Further full disclosure: Each of my reviews is very sincere because I depend on quality reviews when I buy on Amazon, so I take the review process very seriously. I've been drinking it almost exclusively for the past few weeks and enjoy it quite a bit. (Another reviewer commented on the name of the coffee, suggesting that it is awkward. Negro just means "black" in Spanish, though, and this is a very dark coffee. The name fits.)It's a very bold flavor, and they are not kidding it has a high caffeine content. A cup of this gives me a much more noticeable jolt than usual.I've ground it for use in an espresso machine, and also used it as regular drip coffee. I like it both ways, though I think I prefer it in my espresso machine. There's no indication on the package of when it was roasted.Unlike some other reviewers, I do detect a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste of this coffee. I don't mind that, but it does seem to be there. Other than that the flavor is rich, and ... can I say "roasty"? ... with just a hint of dark chocolate. When making a single mug for myself, I typically use two tablespoons of beans in the grinder and get the perfect cup for me. Depending on your preference, you may need more or less.
