It's ability to light up is controlled by the amount of pressure that passes through it. There is an adjustable collar valve that it comes with that allows you to adjust how much water goes through the fountain and how much gets "leaked" back into the pool which would allow you to turn them off temporarily (should only fully close it when the pump is off to avoid damaging the O ring). Or, if you have a pool valve on the return line that the fountain is connected to, then you could partial close it to reduce the flow through the fountain which would "turn off" the lights. If your pool pump does not provide enough pressure to it when the collar valve is fully closed, then the lights wont come on in the first place ... **Q: Does this fits a 12×36 Intex frame pool?** A: Hi Miguel, This Product will not work with Intex or soft-sided swimming pools.
