The app is set to alert you on your phone when there's a slow drain (0.5 GPM or less) for an hour or a higher flow rate for 30 min. These can be adjusted in the app. TBH - that is the most useful feature of this device... the ability to monitor water flow rate and consumption, get alerts in case of a leak and the ability to shut off the water supply remotely. The way i new to replace the filter was if the filter had turned a dark grey color. For my use, this was approximately once per month. I was told by plumber to install water filter and It would help. I found this whole house water filter on sale and purchased it . A friend of mine installed it. I was not an overly easy project as it took him some time but once up it worked perfectly. I have noticed a great improvement in the water. No more orange stains! Only drawback is you have to replace the filter every 3 month and they are not cheap, but I will do it because the filter is doing the job.
