The material is softer, slightly thicker and more dense so the transparency issue is not a problem. The overall quality just feels much better and I am surprised it is still this cheap. From my experience with the original and this one so far, I think this is a great choice for the gym, staying at home or casual wear. The t-shirt is very light, fits well and it is comfy. I got the black one and I don't think it is see through when you are wearing it. You can certainly hold up to the sun or look through it with a light but it will not be see through when you are wearing it. It feels like it will stretch well without ripping while exercising and being so thin should also help dry faster. However, as I mentioned, it is way too thin for my liking and to the point I might forget I am even wearing it. I ordered his typical size and it fit him perfectly. The feel of it is such a nice quality and he absolutely loves that it kept him cool as here in the south it warms up year-round. This did not shrink at all and stayed a nice crisp white and it was not see-through for any of the photos. My husband now wants one as a workout shirt.
