After, adding the daily soaps, once in the morning and once in the evening, I realized that I could reduce the amount of cream I was using. The soaps seemed to be working as the maintenance that is keeping the seborrheic dermatitis away. I use the cream once or twice a week now. I have always been amazed at how little progress there has been toward finding a real solution. Every treatment I tried only reduced the itching and burning for a short time. Nothing ever truly worked. As I have gotten older, my seb derm has only become worse. It has been on my face for the past 15 years. What used to be flare ups has turned into a constant, permanent flare with no relief. This cream is on another level. I received it yesterday, washed my face, and applied it to the affected areas. There was a slight burn at first, but the effect was immediate. My skin cleared up almost like a miracle. I still cannot believe that three ingredients I have used separately with little success, sulphur, salicylic acid, and hydrocortisone, could work so powerfully when combined. Yes, the smell is unpleasant. I will gladly take it over the itching, burning, scaling, and the emotional toll of feeling like I cannot hide my face. For the first time in years, I feel like myself again. A word of caution. This cream contains hydrocortisone, and it is important not to use topical hydrocortisone daily for more than two weeks. In general, long term or excessive use of topical hydrocortisone can lead to skin thinning, increased irritation, changes in skin color, and a higher risk of skin infections. These are the last things I need at my age, so I plan to use this carefully and sparingly. To keep my skin stable, I am going to balance this treatment with gentle face washes that contain salicylic acid and an oil free moisturizer for sensitive skin. I use La Roche Posay Toleriane, which is the only moisturizer my face tolerates.
