Now that we've moved into the digital age, the signal is a stream of 0's and 1's, so during transmission, you either get the 0's and 1's, or you don't. The connection therefore either works, or doesn't work. In other words, it doesn't really make sense to talk about the quality of a digital signal in the same way you would talk about the quality of an analog signal. Don't get confused though, you do want all types of shielding on the actual cable. The issue is that there is nothing special about having a gold connector that translates into signal quality. Preventing RF signals from introducing noise into the signal, is a somewhat different issue. ANYWAYS, the connectors are metal, and sturdy as heck. This is useful if you have a complicated install where wires might need to be pulled through tight spaces (in between walls, in my case) as you can grab the wire by the connector and pull it through. This cable worked flawlessly! Some of the reviews cite the cost of this cable as a negative, however, in this business you generally "get what you pay for". This type of signal (Digital Subscriber Line aka "DSL") is prone to RF electromagnetic interference and the longer the wire run, the more interference you will get because the cable is just one long "antenna" picking up stray electromagnetic waves that induce electrical currents that interfere with the DSL signal stability. The robust foil shielding in this cable provides a "Faraday Cage" tunnel which blocks the RF and electromagnetic energy from inducing stray currents in the signal conductors. For those interested - look up "Faraday Cage" to educate yourself on this electrical principle.
