They are solid and very hard, barely giving at all when you press your fingers into them. They bounce well on a hard surface. In size and composition, they are perfect for pressing between your upper back, shoulders and chest against a wall to dig into the muscles and massage any crunchy spots that develop. I learned about them at Crossfit box and they are indispensable part of post-workout recovery. **Q: Do you provide a manual that will teach me how to properly use these therapy balls?** A: There was no documentation with the therapy balls that I received. My instructions were provided by a physical therapist. **Q: Can you heat or freeze them?** A: I pretty sure you can't heat them up. Doing so would probably damage the balls. You could probably freeze them put I'm sure they wouldn't stay frozen very long. Personally, I place the balls on the floor, about 1" apart, and lie down on them face up. I then slowly move my body along the floor which causes the balls to move down my spine.
