I did notice keeping the lid on keeps the water hot longer. So far I have not used it for cold drinks. I do need to be cautious not to overfill with hot water since the lid doesn't keep water from spilling out of the sides when walking. I have burned my hand a couple of times. With another brand that I've used the glass lid was designed with silicone to keep a tight seal and no spillage when walking. It looks beautiful and there are no defects. The glass this cup is made out of is high quality and usually other cups made out of this brosillicate glass are twice as much. Its supposed to be thin and light, its what most coffee pots are made of. But it is relatively strong. The lid is more like a cap than a true lid. But it fits nicely and looks great, I actually prefer this lid than the kinds with rubber gaskets because it cleans easy and there is no places for germs or soap to hide out.
