Also the grip scales came securely attached. It's 1/10th inch thick and has more flex than most knives but less than a thin machete but enough to handle repeated chopping. I don't have a scale but I would guess it weighs around a pound or slightly less. In my opinion this has more versatility than a classic machete because it has much better blade geometry and it can be used as a large knife as well ( that's what it is after all), it can obviously butcher game and handle food prep, if a little awkwardly due to its length but also it's stiff enough to stab and slash effectively so it can be used as a defensive weapon too, it's surprisingly fast and agile in the hand for a 14" blade. And yes it can handle battoning as well, though I don't think I would use it to baton a 10" log or something like that, but 3" to 4" stuff sure. Another good quality is the steel, 1095, I can only think of two other "machetes" of similar thickness, length and/or purpose that have that (the TOPS machete and the PKS Forrest tool) and those are 3 to 4 times the price of this.The only real drawbacks to this as a machete are that it comes with no sheath and it's somewhat slippery grip. I fixed both for $10. First I wrapped tennis racket grip tape on the grip( $3) which gave it suitable, ah grip. Then I purchased a no name( Coleman?) 18" machete from the hardware store and simply took its sheath which fit it quite well ($7). Neither is a perfect solution but they do work.I've tested this on frozen hardwood branches and saplings and some heavy chopping on bigger stuff and it's held up great. Haven't had this long but it's performing well in its role this far, which h is that of a lightweight but heavy-duty machete. Other blades I own that I'm comparing it to are the Aranyik extended latin, kershaw camp 18, windlass cobra steel talon, condor big duku parang, kabar grass machete and schrade schbolo. It doesn't have the hitting power of any of these but when it comes to the power to weight ratio only the condor is better ( though this is still more versatile than the condor overall) and only the Aranyik has better steel ( 5160 spring steel). These are just my opinions though, hope they help and will update if it fails somehow. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Knives. Better Price! *by L***W on June 10, 2018* I bought the 14 and 10 inche knife in addition to the 7 inche cleaver. They work great! I used a forced patina to protect the blades and sprayed them with pam for extra protection. I used them to slice and trim a brisket...all I had to do was hone the edge. If you do not know how to take care of this type of knife then you will get the rusting others are complaining about.
