They fill-out the shoes very well, and the back of the shoe tree allows easy removal from the shoe. I got the Medium tree, but they could only fit my biggest shoes, which were a size 10 1/2 boating shoe. For anything smaller than a 10, maybe an 8-9, I would get a small. I mention this, because the spring is fairly strong and taunt.The cedar is fairly decent quality. However, a splinter did come off at one point, and it stuck into my foot when I put it into the shoe. Ouch. I would just be mindful of the condition of the trees upon arrival.The trees are made of Cedar, which is the most optimal type of wood for shoe trees. The reason is that the wood contacts the largest area of the inside leather of the shoe, thereby, optimally accomplishing what they are designed to do: (1) keep the shape of the shoe; (2) absorb moisture from the leather. Additionally, they fit my shoes perfectly...I chose size 12-13 to fit my size 12 shoes.
