The cover is high quality. I don't know if it's perfectly real leather (it probably is), but it feels like the real deal, and not like it's going to come apart. The pages are high-weight, handmade, and they looks awesome. The whole deal just begs to have epic stories or journals of high adventure kept in it. The touch of the leather though, reveals lesser quality. It's supposed to represent raw hide, nicely worn rawhide, but it feels like a spongy cardboard. The parchment inside is nice, it looks rustic like the vintage that I thought the leather would represent. The parchment is bound really creatively, very much within historical context. My beef is the condition of the journal when it arrived, which by the way with Amazon Prime reached me in TWO days, great service guys!! Outside, the journal was perfect, inside the flap of the journal is a scratch about 2 inches long that is deep enough it took the color right off. Now the sellers told me to just apply Lexal leather cleaner to it. Maybe if it was for me, I would have tried that, but it's a gift and how would I return it if it didn't help the scratch but stained the journal? Besides, who wants a gift that's already scratched? Whoever packed the sucker didn't inspect it first?I'm overall just ticked off. I was going to write some poems with calligraphy and the birthday is on the 7th. Anybody laying bets on whether the replacement will get here in two days? But 2 day delivery from thursday probably means Monday delivery? Of course that gives me ONE day to get the gift ready. Amazon is great.
