Does it have to be nailed to the steps, or does it stay in place on the steps by itself?** A: I use it on a cement porch with cement stairs. Because it comes rolled up, it's hard to get it flattened, but I put it down so that the "rolling" goes downward (I hope that makes sense). Once snow comes, it will stay flat. Also, because it's made from coco fibers (like the liners for flower baskets), there is no way to nail it down. **Q: Could you tell me what material is this rug made?** A: Can't tell for sure, but it looks like sisal rope fiber or maybe shredded coconut fiber. I also have bad knees on occasion to I thought this might help me not falling on my butt in an ice storm. Does it work? In a word, yup, but you need to make sure you can anchor it down because it comes in a role and the last part of the role is kind of a bugger to lie flat on a sidewalk (heavy winds can cause it to roll up so I had to anchor it down for awhile). My section rolls out about ten feet with a couple inches on my concrete porch held down by a heavy floormat. Does it help regarding ice ? It sure does! She is jumping up on the porch and crossing to the door without a problem. I hope it doesn't blow away and we will see how it works with 'wintry mix' again this weekend.
