## Description

Get the look of a cozy fireplace without the messy clean-up with this duraflame Infrared Quartz Electric Log Set Heater. When you place this heater into an existing fireplace, you’ll love watching the dancing flames project onto the back of the hearth. Realistic log set and ember bed sit in a black finished fire grate and feature a rolling flame effect that works with or without heat, so you can have the ambiance of a real fire all year long, even during warmer months. When the heat is on, it provides supplemental heat for spaces up to 1,000 square feet to help you save money, and can be controlled from anywhere in the room using the included remote control. The infrared heat doesn’t reduce the natural humidity within the air, for comfortable heat that won’t dry out the room or contribute to static electricity. Control the log set from anywhere in the room using the included multi-function remote control. No hookups or vents are required for this electric log set. Simply plug it in and enjoy. Manufactured and distributed by Twin-Star International, Inc., under license from Duraflame, Inc. duraflame, the flame symbol, and logo are registered trademarks of Duraflame, Inc.

Review: Great Product - I am a real person in Louisville, KY writing an honest review. I only do reviews of products that either exceed expectations or don't work at all. This electric log set exceeds all my expectations. We had a very mild winter here up until the last few weeks. Then it got very cold and we had accumulations of snow. Of course that's when our old electric log fireplace unit decided to quit working. It was a Dimplex unit. Comparing features Dimplex vs our new Duraflame, the Duraflame is a superior product. First - the heat. I bought this primarily for the heat. The infrared heater and fan work great. The heat unit is on bottom so heat blows out bottom and then rises. This is important: the old Dimplex heat element was on top. So we always lost a lot of heat inside the fireplace - it never made it into our living room. But with the Duraflame you can stand 4 feet away from fireplace and feel the heat rising up and into the room. Our living room is approx. 15x15. It keeps living room 3-5 degrees warmer than rest of house. Sitting 12 feet away my wife and I can feel the warmth. When you enter the room you immediately feel the difference in temperatures. The Duraflame makes the same noise as a small electric heater. Unnoticable in background. Next - the flame effect. At night it is excellent. It looks quite real projected on to the back of fireplace. The Dimplex projected onto a smoky mirror. During the daytime and often at night you could see a mirror. The flame effect on mirror was OK but you could still tell it was a mirror. The Dimplex also required two lightbulbs to make flame effect, and there was a motor running inside unit (additional to fan) that moved this tinsel stuff on a rod to create the flame effect. Clunky. The Duraflame flames look quite real at night. Next - the ember/ coals effect. On the Duraflame it's pretty fake looking. It doesn't modulate randomly. The internal LED just dims/brightens/goes off in a set pattern over and over. Remote. The Duraflame remote has power/flame/heater controls, so you can operate most everything remotely. On side of actual Duraflame unit there are also controls for intensity of flame, embers, heat level, and a thermostat. We really like thermostat - allows you to control just how warm your room gets. Finally - installation. It's very light and comes with a fairly long cord. The cord comes out the right rear, but even though our outlet is on left of fireplace the cord still comes out of fireplace and extends an additional foot or so. It must be about 3' long. We bought a high amp extension cord to get to outlets that is still several feet away. To install it you just set it in your fireplace and plug it in. Then you adjust thermostat and other things to your liking. That's it. Great! We love it and we think you will, too. It is a quality product shipped quickly.
Review: Long-lasting workhorse - After having lived 1.5 Minnesota winters in my 100+ year old Craftsman, I realized we needed something to supplement the heat on the main floor. The entire house is on one thermostat, meaning by the time it thought the downstairs was appropriately cozy, the upstairs was doing a convincing impression of a Swedish sauna. I needed something to supplement the heat downstairs and tell the thermostat to (literally) chill—and a bit of ambiance wouldn’t hurt. I did some homework and realized that, with my eczema, I’d need infrared heat, and this little guy was the best rated. Six and a half years later, I have not regretted my choice. I’ll run through the specifics below. Size: I have a coal-burning fireplace, meaning it’s much smaller than a wood-burning one. This heater fits perfectly. Heat output: the technology on mine doesn’t allow me to pick an exact temperature, but it acts as a great supplement to my radiators even on days when the temp drops to well below zero. Ease of use: you can set it how you want it on the side panel, then just use the remote to turn it on and off. I find the remote buttons to be vague enough that I don’t really know what difference they’re making, which is why I only use it as a power switch. Ambiance: does it look like a real fire? Not exactly, but it’s close enough that it makes the room pretty and cozy. Definitely sets a “curl up with a hot chocolate and a good book” mood. Value: This is what I really came here to say. We have run this thing for several hours almost every day for about six months out of the year (remember: Minnesota) for SIX. YEARS. Over the past week it kept shutting off, and I was worried I’d have to replace it. Nope! Turns out the intake vent was choked with dust and cat hair. A good vacuuming with the blade attachment, and it is once again happily chugging along at my side like the day I set it up. Which brings me to... Safety: What I thought was a malfunction (turning itself off quickly after I turned it on) was actually the unit's safety feature at work. It was saving us from a conflagration of dust and cat hair. Good to know that feature works! If you need an aesthetically pleasing, practical, long-lasting space heater/fireplace insert, buy this. It’s worth the money and then some.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the difference between this unit and the duraflame electric dfi030aru with the same specs, aside from the sound?**
A: Aside from what the other person stated I believe another difference is that this one has heat regulation whereas the other one does not, however, both appear to have regulation of the flames.

**Q: Does this insert make a crackling sound?**
A: This model does not make a crackling sound.

**Q: what side does the power cord come out on if your facing the fireplace?**
A: it comes out the back. the unit is a superb heating unit.

**Q: I know that infered heats a bigger room and gets hot faster, is there a difference otherwise? Pros and cons of each please. I don't know what infered**
A: From my understanding, infrared is 40% more efficient and heats faster (covering more sf as a result). However, the heat is direct and thus dissipates just as fast. Conventional heats the air unlike infrared and is supposed to last longer after the heater is off. Conventional also dehumidifies as a result. Not sure the extent to which all that is true with this specific product... I have the conventional one but not this one so can't compare.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A nice alternative heat source
*by C***N on January 19, 2021*

I live on the Gulf Coast, so suffice to say it doesn't get super cold here even in winter, and honestly I'm not sure why my house was built with a fireplace to begin with, but it was. Recently our gas company decided to stop running gas to the fireplaces for code reasons, so my rarely used gas insert became completely inert. I've always wished my fireplace was a little more cheery, especially around the holidays, and after staying in B&B recently that had a small electric fireplace I started looking into getting one for myself. I chose this one because I wanted to be able to use it not just for aesthetic reasons, but I wanted it to actually heat my downstairs (on those days when it does get down into the 50s and 40s) without turning on my central heating. Since the infrared models were advertised to heat up to 1000 sq ft - over the 400 sq ft the non-infrared models could heat - I thought it was worth the extra cost. I'm happy to report that it was totally worth it. It heats up my downstairs where I watch TV and game and leaves the upstairs where I sleep nice and cool - just how I like it. Using the central heat I'd have to actually turn the AC back on at night to get it to a comfortable sleeping temperature, but this has solved that problem and is saving me money on my electricity bill since I'm not having to run either the central heat or AC. The cord is also pretty long. I was a bit worried about whether or not I would need an extension cord, but it reached the nearest wall plug without any issue. And, yes, you will have to live with a cord coming out of your fireplace unless you have a plug built into your fireplace to hide it. Overall I have been extremely happy with this purchase. It looks very nice in my fireplace, and since I have a screen in front of the opening it's even harder to tell at first glance that it's just an electric heater with fancy lights on it. It definitely doesn't look like a REAL fire, but it looks real enough to give the overall impression and ambiance of having a fire and is a major improvement over a dark, cold empty fireplace. And, cheesy at it sounds, I actually really love the crackling and popping sound track. It doesn't sound fake or recorded (no background white noise when it plays) and it just makes it feel cozy and homey. Even my partner who initially laughed at it as being silly, eventually told me, "You know what? I actually really like the crackling sounds." My pets (especially my older cat) also really enjoy it as you can see evidenced in the picture. If you just want it for the aesthetic, I'd say don't pay for the infrared model, but if you want something that will actually work as an alternative heat source this one will do the job and look pretty great doing it.
