Usually it takes me close to a month to break in my shoes to a point where I can at least wear them comfortably to the grocery store and back home. I wore these sandals for a few hours the night I received them and didn't want to take them off. I've been wearing them every chance I get now! I did have some stretch-like pain in the arch of my foot for a couple wears but that's likely due to my other shoes having zero arch support. The toe post isn't irritating at all and the buckle didn't rub either. These are super comfortable! The size conversion from EU to US sizing is great, they fit very well. My feet are on the wider side and they do stick out a bit, but not a huge amount. The birkoflor upper material doesn't look cheap or plastic-like which is nice. I would have gotten the brown leather if my size was in stock, but I am very happy with the black. I also love that these don't look like an orthopedic shoe like some sandals with good arch support do. They're very modern looking and can go with anything. My mom was checking them out and was surprised when she saw they were Birksenstocks. They are certainly a splurge but if you appreciate good quality and wear your shoes to death like me, then I don't think you'll be disapointed. My grandma has a pair of Birkenstocks that she wears regularly during the summer and I can't remember her NOT having them around. I plan on getting lots of use out of these this summer so I can bring them to Mexico next February! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great shoes! *by A***E on September 17, 2013* I have flat feet, and recently had an ankle surgery that I am still recovering from. With a family vacation coming up - and lots of walking to look forward to - I needed a sandal that I could wear for hours without discomfort. I hesitated to buy a "Birkenstock" sandal (No "hippies" in this house!), but the reviews won me over. So glad I took the plunge!First, shipping was faster than anticipated - they arrived 2 days earlier than stated. Next, yes, they were a little stiff when I first slipped them on. But I knew better than to try wearing them for long periods of time until they were broken in. After wearing them every few days for an hour or two at a time, they are getting more and more comfortable. I fully expect to be able to do miles of walking without any aches in my feet or ankles. And these are far more stylish than they typical Arizona-style Birk. I can wear them with jeans, dresses, or shorts, and they are CUTE! Well worth the $$. I KNOW I'll be buying more next summer.PS - I bought the color "Graceful Licorice". It's black. Not as shiny as patent, but not a flat black.
