The same type screws could work for attaching o the plank, assuming proper diameter holes were drilled. **Q: Thinking of using these to shore up a cheap, particle board shelving unit. Would this work?** A: I used them to mount 3 19x15-inch 11/16-inch thick particle board shelves in a utility closet and they're holding well. Byu the way. I tried to drill a third mount hole in a bracket and when the drill heated up the bracket, it hardened, ruining a drill bit. My brother told me about this tendency with certain grades of steel and apparently this is one of those. Back to your project. If the shelves aren't too long or the particle board too thin, and prone to bowing under weight, these will work.
