Try not to do it. "Steel-strings" - yes, it applies to this guitar. **Q: can you attach a whammy bar to it** A: Yes it even comes with one **Q: do you have to string this guitar or are those extra strings?** A: It comes strung and all you have to do is tune it. You can use the computer for tuning. You can get the sounds to play. There were no extra strings as far as I know. I bought this guitar for my son and he has it at his place. The amp is nothing great but for a beginner, it does the trick. Guitar seems well crafted. The connection on the guitar for the amp cord has a little play and sometimes gives some static.
