You could do what I did and get a piece of plexiglass or other material the size you want and seal that piece in place. **Q: Is this unit self evaporating?** A: To be honest with you I can’t answer that question with accuracy or knowledge of the AC unit. I tried Pro breeze for a week. But if it helps your decision about the product, I returned it. Didn’t function very well, bottom line is it didn’t cool hardly at all. I’ve since purchased a black and decker AC unit.. works amazingly. **Q: Many of the windows in my home do not open. Would a small dog door work?** A: Yes, a dog door would work, but remember the exhaust hose is six inches in diameter, and if you wanted to go in and out through the door you would be taking the hose in and out all the time. But it stopped working after 2 years, and when it was put on cool mode, it would only cool for a few minutes before automatically switching back to fan mode. I almost bought a new one, but researched that cleaning the inside of the unit, and getting rid of the layers of dust, could help it cool again. Customer service did not help me which was frustrating, and it was very hard to take off the back. I unscrewed everything but then had to force the back to come off and broke it a little bit. But once I cleaned the whole backside and air filters of dust, it works amazing again!
