I've used henna several times on my hair because I was interested in the health and conditioning benefits as well as playing with an auburn hair color. When I was very young my hair was a light-medium auburn color, and became more blonde as I got older and spent a lot of time in the sun. My natural color is a deep blonde to light/medium brown with a slightly red finish. I am very pale with pinkish undertones and although the red henna looked nice for some time in my opinion, then it became too saturated for my skin tone and ended up washing out my light complexion. It was such a bummer to see the red/orange henna against my fresh roots which are a medium ash tone. The reason its much healthier than any other color in the market is because its pH value is around 8.5compared to 10.5 - 11.5 with all the other colors ( a difference from 8.5 to 10.5 is not 2 but 20 in pH terms) which means they don't have the toxic, harsh chemicals in the color. Thats why this color needs heat to open the cuticles to get color pigments into the hair. All the other colors do not use heat because they have the harsh chemicals and therefore they have a high pH value. To keep the pH value you need quality ingredients and that why its more expensive. Also there is 2-methylresorcinol which is hydrolyzed resorcinol (much more expensive) not direct resorcinol. Google the two and see the difference. Its like bad cholesterol and good cholesterol or bacteria good for the stomach and ones bad for the stomach. The good ones always cost a lot more... **Q: P-phelylendediamine is listed in ingredients, thus it does have ppd, right?** A: I'd say Yes if it's listed in the ingredients. As you can see in the picture, it’s pretty bright but also fairly close to the model. I am naturally about 35% white and the rest is a level 7/8 strawberry blonde. The white was covered almost completely with this product. I was using Madison Reed but the ethanolamine was irritating my scalp and I was losing a lot of hair. The ONC did not bother me at all. The process is more tedious but the results are worth it. Use a heat cap as you will get an even color that way. The reason I have given this 4 stars is that it’s darker than I’d like and really more of a level 6. I’ll have to mix it with 8n next time to see if I can get it to come out lighter. It is pretty though. This picture is after I washed my hair a few days after coloring it.
