Review: I've been using the old clamp style spring compressor to remove/install valve springs. This tool makes the job so much quicker. I was able to remove 16 valves in a couple of minutes. Just place the tool and give it a good whack and the keepers stay in the tool instead of falling on the floor. Installing the valve springs is allot easier too. I tried setting up the tool and keepers and gave it a tap with a dead blow hammer. It's a beautiful thing when it works but everything has to be lined up perfectly. I was able to hand press the valve springs in which was okay for stock valve springs. I have a set of performance valve springs that I will try with this tool. I'm hoping the new springs aren't too stiff for this tool to work. One of the best advantages of this tool is that you can remove the valve springs with the head still on the car. But keep in mind that you need to hold the valve in place while the spring is out. If it drops then you are removing the head. Yes it may work "okay" for some heads (I used it on a D16A6 CRX Si), but it is really sized for larger 2-valve/cylinder engines. If you plan on working on Hondas, you really want the smaller version of this tool that comes in the 5-piece 36050 kit (but costs twice as much). Fortunately Lisle sells the two pieces of the smaller version separately. Lisle part# 36740 is the magnetic handle and 36440 is the installer. Both parts are only as big a round as the retainers so they fit all Honda heads no problem, and the installer has a smaller inner diameter which works better for Honda 5.5mm valve-stems. **Q: Would this tool work Chevy engine 5.7 or 6.0 liter** A: Yes, it took me about 2 hours to change all 16 valve springs in my 2005 ctsv w/5.7 liter LS6. That was hood up to hood down. I may have completed it quicker but I had a buddy over and we were drinking beers while doing the spring swap. I used the compressed air method with a spark plug adapter hose to pressurize the cylinder. WARNING!!! Make sure you set hand brake and chock the wheels and if manual transmission like my car put in gear, before you pressurize the cylinder. The air will try to rotate the engine. Lastly I used a small 5 gallon compressor @ 90 psi. With no worries. This is one tool that truly makes this job easier. Hope I helped someone. **Q: will this tool work on Subaru 2.5 engines?** A: No. This is the larger version of the tool. The nipple on the end is too large to fit between the keepers. It simply smashes them against the valve end, potentially ruining both. Get the small version. I was working on an 06 EJ253 SOHC with standard subaru 6mm valve stems. I ground down the nipple to fit and it still failed to seat both keepers simultaneously. Went back to traditional valve spring compressor to finish the job. Love the tool for REMOVING springs however.
