Review: Fantastic Purchase - Made a huge difference - I'll start by saying I never leave reviews, but sometimes you buy something and just have to... 1 - Setup Setup was a breeze, download the app, grab one of the units that you'll use as the main device and select which mode you want to use (I opted to completely replace my router and use the 'main' halo as the router). You're guided through the process and are asked if you want automatic or manual setup. I first tried manual which I'll be honest I couldn't get to work, when selecting automatic I waited about 10 minutes and boom first halo up and running. Get any additional units, place them strategically and again use the guided process to link each unit together. All up and running in about 30 mins. 2 - The app I actually don't quite understand some of the poor reviews stating the app being a limitation. Yes, you can't quite do EVERYTHING you could if you had a web portal like some of the more expensive units. I work in technology (and have worked specifically in a networking capacity) and I honestly couldn't tell you what 99% of users would need that the app doesn't offer. Port forwarding / QoS / priority etc etc can all be done via the app. It also notifies you of any new connections, allows you to name and categorise the devices (great for younguns whom you may want to restrict certain websites from). And you're able to setup 'profiles' for each person so that those profiles are applied to the devices they add. At first, my main PC was dropping (very occasionally), go into the app, select the device and then bind it to the strongest unit (rather than using the roaming capabilitis) and its been absolutely rock solid ever since. Also, the 'network optimisation' function is great too, I've only used it once but it found a really good channel (verified via inSSIDer) and I'm on a quiet channel with little interferance. 3 - Stability / Speed I've had this now for about 8 weeks and I've not had a single problem with it. I've seen in some other reviews they've had to reboot a unit or 2 etc but (whilst I know its early days) I literally haven't had to touch it since setup. Its been absolutely fantastic from the day I installed it. I'm an avid gamer and with my previous setup I'd have the odd disconnect (only breifly) and some games just don't deal with that well. One of my favourite games did this and I'd have to log out/back in again multiple times per night (not good with the type of game played). This setup has COMPLETELY illimintated that and has also reduced my average ping by about 12 (now sitting at 7ms ping on almost all games). Speed wise, from the further point in the house I can get from any of the units, I lose about 10% and no more. My provider gives me 300up/300down and again at the furthest point I get 275/260. 4 - Conclusion For the price paid for these units (I got the pack of 2), at the price of purchase £59.99 they're probably one of the best networking kit I've purchased. Replacing a £300 'WiFi 6' router, these absolutely smoke it out of the park. PC's/Laptops/Phones/Gaming/Downloads have all performed significantly better on these than the previous, much more expensive router I honestly wished I'd tried these much sooner. Finally, downloading/streaming etc on multiple devices all at once this kit doesn't miss a beat. Previously if we had guests round all doing their own thing we'd see some speed drops and inconsistencies. With this, everything I've thrown at it so far no matter what you're doing it just handles it, no questions asked. If you're on the fence about mesh, or even considering a new router I'd honestly suggest giving these a try. They're owned / operated by TP-Link as their 'consumer' focused brand, but honestly they outperform everything I've tried so far (AP points/extenders/very expensive routers) and I'd have no problem purchasing Mercusys again. Fantastic piece of kit and I'd buy it again no question.
Review: Easy to set up, work well, good app. - I've got five of these in total - a three pack and a two pack. Running on a Virgin Media Router, 1gb connection. They provide good mesh coverage and the app is easy to use and understand. Plugging in an ethernet cable provides high speed - no idea how it works (as it's coming via wifi and then through an ethernet) but it does, and my "gaming son" is very pleased with the speed. Look nice enough when out on display, and all seem to connect each other well. I'd recommend these.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I am confused about the configuration. Do I just connect 1 unit to the router and the other 2 connect via wi-fi or do I have to ethernet to all 3 unit**
A: You can do either. However if you do use ethernet for all 3 there might be a problem if you connect more than one directly to the router or via a switch. It can create a network loop. So if you do want to use ethernet for more than one unit, connect the second and third ethernet cables between units. Each unit has 3 ethernet sockets, so you can do this. I think that if you have a switch that does detect loops you don't have to worry, but my switches didn't work.

**Q: Im access point mode do they still create their own mesh network?**
A: Yes

**Q: I have an out building approximately 30m from the back of my hse and 60m from the router. Can this be used to extend my Wi-Fi to the out building?**
A: I have installed this mesh system in my home. It works very well in the house, and at the bottom of the garden. The distance from the nearest mesh boxes is about 35metres. I have testing the signal strength and it is good. No guarantees that it will work across the distances in the questioner's situation but I have been very happy with this system.

**Q: Can you setup multiple wifi networks ssids eg I have one for devices and one for people (so I can change the people password but not have to reset all**
A: Yes, we use main network for peoples gadgets, TVs, laptops, Firestick etc Then Guest network at 2.4 GHz only for smart devices like cameras, doorbell etc. Easy to do too

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ You get more than what you pay for.
*by J***R on 10 May 2023*

Ive spent 2 days setting this up. On day 1 I set up a Halo network based on the sequence of operations on the App, which worked fine but it wanted to work as a router. This was ok but my existing router network uses around 18 smart devices including bulbs, switches, thermostats, Alexas Roku devices and printers. I decided to use a separate Halo network name and SSID and password. It seems that these all need to be accessible around the house, and so I could either switch them individually to my Halo network or change the network to use the existing router as an access point. and set the Halo Network to the same SSID and password as my routers Network. The idea being that The router would handle IP addressing, and the Smart devices should just appear on the Halo network. On Day 2, I changed the Halo net name to my Routers SSID and Password. (easy) Then set the Halo net to work as an Access point (also easy - via the Mercury's App). Then optimised the network - again on the app. There was some conflict going on between the router Wifi and the Halo Wifi so I turned off the Router Wifi. Now I have 12 devices showing as online on the app. the other 6 devices show as offline. 2 are actually offline but 4 are not - These 4 are smart switches , and fortunately they work fine via both the smart life App and via Alexa. It's just that they show as offline on the Halo network. Not sure why . FAQ and the online manual don't help with this issue. I guess I need to try out their Tech support. Another issue is that my wifi printer is too old (10 years - Epson BX525WD) to connect to the Halo Network - :^((. It keeps showing Network connect fail incompatible wifi. So Im quite happy with the system. I could use a couple more Halo units to cover our conservatory and hopefully the garage, but will get used to the current system first. Pros: easy to setup. Works well once configured correctly. The Phone App is really good. Cons: range less than expected. Detailed configuration is complex. Interaction with existing wifi has conflicts. My biggest ask: It would help to have a setup manual or at least FAQs for how to apply to a smart device network. Pics : 1 - Connecting the main halo to a router. 2- The halo running after closing down the router wifi. 3- Main halo with some clients inc Smart Thermostat. Update after 1 month Use: 1. Upgraded 3 to 4 stars 2. Very reliable wifi at a min speed so far of 300 mbs (the more clients the lower the speed) 3. Printer working in the mesh by connecting it to a Halo in my upstairs office - working really quickly. 4. IoT smart switches seem to show as online if they are in a line of sight from a hub rather than behind objects. In the main they still work even if showing offline in the app. 5. Now planning to extend the mesh with a couple extra Halos
