## Description

Product Description Enjoy a fresh slice of french bread cut by this bread knife from Global. It is made from a single piece of high quality CROMOVA 18 stainless steel and has a serrated edge to make cutting foods with crusts effortless. The ice hardened edge can hold a sharper edge for a longer time so you can slice bread and melons for a delicious lunch. It has an ergonomic handle with a dimple pattern making it comfortable and slip resistant, useful for repetitive slicing. The knife’s perfect weight is achieved through the hollow handle that is filled with sand for ideal balance. This knife can become very useful in your kitchen because it can slice through anything from soft breads to melons. 8-1/2" L desertcart.com High tech from tip to handle, Global knives from Japan created a sensation when they burst onto the world's culinary stage as an alternative to traditional European-style cutlery. Blades are made of hard molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel and "face-ground" with a long taper rather than a short bevel so edges remain sharp longer than even the best high-carbon stainless-steel knives. Edges also are ground at a more acute angle than traditional European-style knives and arrive from the factory razor-sharp. Although Global also makes a "heavyweight" line for cooks who prefer hefty knives, its original knives--of which this 8-3/4-inch bread knife, with a scalloped edge for slicing crusty loaves, is an example--have thinner blades and are lighter than traditional European-style knives. Global also dispensed with bolsters on its original knives to reduce weight. Balance is achieved by injecting a precise amount of sand for a particular blade style into a hollow handle. To ensure balance is continuous, the sand flows inside the handle as a blade is maneuvered. A finger notch between blade and handle provides safety. Stainless-steel handles are Global's most striking feature. They're molded to fit the hand and dimpled to resist slipping. Smaller around than many European-style handles, they're easy for small-handed cooks to grasp and seamless for sanitation. Global recommends using a ceramic sharpener or a diamond steel instead of a metal sharpening steel for its knives, supplemented by a synthetic whetstone, a ceramic whetstone, or a Shinkansen sharpener. Global also makes a Sharpening Guide Rail so blades can be honed on a whetstone at the proper angle. Global knives should be hand washed to protect edges. They carry a lifetime warranty against defects and breakage. --Fred Brack

Review: Great Knife! - I ordered a Global Santoku knife a while back from a recommend in a knife forum. Turns out it was a great knife, and it quickly became my wife’s favorite kitchen knife - we had Zwilling/Henkels for the most part before I got these. They’re light weight, keep the edge for a reasonable amount of time (they all get dull, these commercials for the “world’s sharpest knife!” are silly, whack stuff up on a cutting board, go through some turkeys and roasts and it’s as dull as the $4 knife at the dollar store). They’re kitchen knives, so rust really isn’t an issue. They’re also lightweight (I believe on the bigger knives, the handle has a hollow cavity) – it’s all one-piece construction, so no handles coming off or getting damaged or destroyed by washing or leaving it too close to a burner. For Christmas I decided to replace all of our Zwilling/Henkel knives with Global knives. I ordered them à la carte – like everybody else, Global’s big sets had more than I needed and not enough of what I wanted, so if you see this review in multiple places, that the reason. Anyway, the 8.5” bread knife is very nice, functional and worth the money.
Review: Sharp and well made. - I always wanted a nice set of knives and found Global. For a birthday or holiday I’ll buy myself one. This is the bread knife and it is amazing. Besides bread, I use to slice larger vegetables. My set is growing.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this the best knife for very crusty and heavy sour dough bread?**
A: Yes, it is for me. It is a wonderful knife, easy to use and cuts bread and bagels with ease. I love that is it light and balanced in my hand and is wonderfully sharp!

**Q: What is the width of the blade? I am looking for the dimension from the serrated edge to the flat side of the blade, at the widest point.**
A: 2 inches or 5 centimeters at widest dimension.

**Q: Country of manufacture ?**
A: Land of the Rising Sun. The phrase "Made in Japan" is printed on the box. The word "Japan" is etched on the knife.

**Q: 8.5 inches for the blade or the full length of the knife? Anyone can tell me how long is the blade? Thank you!**
A: 8 1/2 from tip to rear most length of knife.......in a wood block if allowed more space will probably slide in extra half inch till handle widens.....but blade length definitely 8 1/2

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ VERY Sharp and attractive.
*by A***T on July 8, 2024*

We have other Global knives in this G-9 style so this is a nice match. Met all of our expectations for a Global knife. Sharp, nicely weighted without being to heavy and fits our hands comfortably. Blade length is ideal for breads and bagels. Cuts cleanly in a few strokes.
