Sturdy and non-absorbing bowls that are made from left-over sugar cane fiber -- Toss them in the compost bin after using!

I bought these in the 12 oz size for a big outdoor get-together with friends and neighbors. I was serving a couple of different hot soups and didn't want to have to deal with the later cleanup of a bunch of crockery-type bowls/cups. Also, I had a concern about putting hot soups into plastic disposable bowls for fear of melting or leaching of chemicals from the plastic. And I avoid styrofoam disposable dishware because of environmental reasons and the inability to recycle it.The 12 oz bowls were a perfect size for this event since there were plenty of other foods available to put on plates. The bowls really only hold about 10 oz of soup, because the 12-oz line would be up to the very top rim. I'd probably go with a 16 oz bowl if I had been using them for a meal where that was the main or only dish. The bowls were sturdy enough and held up to the hot soup. However, when filled up with heavy soup, you do pretty much need to carry/move the bowls carefully by holding them by opposing rims, or with a hand under the bottom, or with the filled bowl resting on a plate. When full, the bowls flex a bit if you just try to pick one up by one side edge. They work fine in the microwave to reheat food items.Since I served thick soups (chili and a ginger/butternut squash soup), I was curious of whether soups that were more of a broth-type base would eventually soak through and cause the bowls to become soggy and likely to collapse. So I tested a bowl by placing hot water in it along with some red food dye (I figured the dye would begin to show up on the outsides of the bowl if there was any absorption at all of the hot water). I'd really only intended to leave it for 45-60 minutes, thinking that would be plenty of time to see if the water soaked in. But I forgot all about it and didn't recheck it until 3-4 hours later. No water had soaked through at all during all that time.I like that these bowls are made of sustainable materials (the left-over fibers after the extraction of sugar from sugar cane) and are compostable. To avoid any meat scents that might attract vermin or other animals to our compost bins, I rinsed the ones that had contained chili.

    Biodegradable!

I have been purchasing this product for some time now and the main selling point is that it breaks down over time. Compared to styrofoam that doesn't, that's a very important reason to switch. Keep up the great work.

    You can reuse many times

I use these to feel my cat and I rinse them and they dry out just fine. When I've used one about 15 times, then I will recycle it.
