The sets may be combined for thousands of new comparisons!UPC CODE: 027084-64524-8 From the Manufacturer "APPLES to APPLES KIDS brings the hilarious card and party game, Apples to Apples, to the entire family. Younger players will delight in the funny comparisons while expanding their vocabulary and thinking skills at the same time. The game is as easy as comparing apples to apples – just open the box, deal the RED APPLE cards to each player and you’re ready to go! Players take turns being the judge. The judge starts each round by playing a GREEN APPLE card that features a one-word characteristic such as Fuzzy, Cute or Yucky. The rest of the players must then look at the RED APPLE cards in their hands and select the one they think is best described by the judge’s card – will you play Blowing Your Nose, Kangaroos or My Teacher? When everyone’s RED APPLE cards are on the table, players try to convince the judge that theirs is the best match. This kind of table talk is a big part of the fun. Just wait until you hear all the clever – and not so clever – ways that players try to convince the judge to choose a particular card. Do your best, because if the judge picks your card, you win that round! The first player to win four rounds wins the game. Fast-moving and refreshing, Apples to Apples KIDS is easy to learn and fun to play – it’s the perfect game for kids, families and friends!"

Review: Family Favorite - This game came under the tree at Christmas this past year. My daughter (8 at the time) wasn't much impressed with it at first. It doesn't look terribly fun to a kid that's not a fan of reading. For that reason it got neglected for quite a while, even though my partner and I have played the adult version and loved it and she knew that. When we finally did bust out the game it was a hit. It also helped keep the neighborhood kids occupied when we had several of them in the group. We had two kids that weren't strong readers. There was my son (who is 5) and another girl that's 6. The rest of the group was three giggly 9 year old girls, one of which being my daughter, and my partner and me. We were able to make the game fun for all of us, even though there were a variety of ages. The game and it's rules are pretty simple, but I will advise everyone to encourage their children to think outside the box. We've had our judges pick things that totally didn't fit the card pulled just because it was funny and made them crack up. We've had some pretty wild games where everyone was laughing. Here's a tip for playing with kids that aren't old enough to read yet. This is what we do. The kid who isn't old enough to read will pick a card at random and show it to an adult or the person next to them so someone knows what they picked (which isn't really important if only one kid can't read). Our son finds the things he puts down to be incredibly funny when they'er read off because he knows they're probably not going to fit at all. They also make for great judges because someone can always read for them and let them pick the winner. Something else we picked up somewhere, a friend of ours told us with the adult game that the description cards you've won at the end of the game are supposed to describe you. We've had a lot of fun post-game by reminding everyone of the attributes they got in the game. Generally this only makes everyone want to play even more to see what kind of crazy description they'll get next time.
Review: Great toy for getting kids to think about smilar items as well as reading - We bought this along with the Junior eddition for our 7 year old. It is great fun when you have a large group of people but it gets a bit harder with only 3. It is playable but just not as much fun. So we used one of the suggestions that was made in another review to add a stuffed animal to the mix so we had 4 to play with. When it is the stuffed animal's turn we just pull a random card out of that hand as its' choice and when it is deciding we just pull a random card from the ones that we put in. It makes for some random and funny answers. It is a great game to work on reading skills and on similarities and descriptive words.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the minimum number of players? im often alone with 1 child. also which version is best for a 9 yr old who is a slow reader? junior or kids?**
A: Speed of reading isn't the issue, it is vocabulary. If your child can read and understand the words then the junior would be fine. But this game works best with more players (4 at least, but you can do 3 with a dummy player).

**Q: What is the difference between the "junior" and "kid 7+" versions? does either version have pictures on them, or do you have to be able to read to play?**
A: Junior is for 9+ kids and there are 576 word cards as opposed to 288 word cards for 7+. Their level of experience and knowledge will determine how well they do with the subjects of each version and yes, there are words with synonyms, so reading is critical, as there are no pictures related to the words.

**Q: what am I missing??? why is this priced at $75.99?? Is this a collector's item or something?**
A: I believe it is out of print or out of stock. The prices often go up when there is limited inventory and/or is being sold by anyone other than Amazon. When I purchased it, years ago (2015) the cost was under $20. It looks like it is out of stock from Amazon currently and is being sold by a third party. It is likely that the price will return to normal when/if the item is back in stock, but no guarantees that this will happen.
In the meantime, you might consider the other kids variety, Apples to Apples Junior. It is similar, though with a few harder words, as it is meant for ages 9+. You could likely go through the deck and remove some of the harder words if needed. (We have both Kids 7+ and Junior versions, and did this in the past before getting the 7+ version.)

**Q: Should a 9 yr old slow reader get the Kids or Junior?**
A: i'm not familiar with the Junior. The only reading is on the card that the others respond to. I had an adult game, bought a Kids, and combined them, pulling out the difficult cards

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is a great game for kids
*by H***. on November 30, 2015*

This is a great game for kids. My young kids loved watching the adults play Apples to Apples, but the cards had lots of words ("Bumbling") and people (Marilyn Monroe, etc.) that they were unfamiliar with. This one has all easier words ("Large") and only a few characters (Sesame Street), so they are able to very easily read the words and play an appropriate card. My children who play are ages 5 and 6, so they actually are younger than the age listed on the box, but they both read very well and I rarely have to help them with a word they don't know. One of the nicer parts of this is that the Apples to Apples Kids 7+ game supposedly has completely different words than the Apples to Apples Junior game (for ages 9+), so when they are older we can combine the sets. We did get the Junior/9+ version as well, but many of the words were a little difficult for my 5 year old. Would highly recommend getting this version for any younger readers. My kids want to play this all the time!
