If the baseline cannot be drawn during use, you can draw the baseline according to this method. When the crank is moved to the leftmost position, which is at nine o'clock, the position of the shuttle is as shown in the figure. When the hand crank is at nine o'clock, the overlap gap between the shuttle and the lock bed should be aligned with the needle. Timing the bobbin and needle to be in the right position at the right time. There are 2 parts to it, and only the 'fine tuning' of it are shown in the images. That is the two nuts, referred to in the image as 'screws'. The other part that will most likely cause the timing to be off is the gear that rotates the bobbin. The timing is set at the factory with the two nuts, but one can either accidentally pull out the gear with the bobbin and bobbin carrier, or intentionally remove it to apply grease or oil on the gear shaft that spins the whole thing; and then there is big time trouble - if you do not know how to install the gear. The picture showing the final position the needle is in to pick up the bobbin thread when the timing is adjusted properly. This picture shows how to VERIFY the timing is good. The beginning of it all is the gear under the bobbin carrier and how to install the gear. • The hand crank handle needs to be at the 12 o'clock position, straight up. • The high part of the gear aligns to the long arm, towards the crank. That is that the high part is equally aligned side-to-side with the long arm, towards the crank wheel. • Drop the gear down onto the shaft and wiggle to seat it. • If the high part is off one gear cog, it will not align equally with the arm, and it needs to be removed and installed so that it aligns. • Otherwise, if aligned wrong, it will not look the same as in the picture with the needle down. Misalignment will cause no pick-up, or the stitch will be loose. **Q: Where do I obtain additional compatible thread? Special size?** A: You can buy it on Amazon. Use a 110/18 needle Poly thread is good, like 138/ Tex 135. Do not use waxed thread. Go to YouTube lots of videos. Thread and needle are based on how thick the leather is or what its going to be used for. Like a hand bag vs a bag used outdoors. When exposed to the sun some threads break down. **Q: When this shoe repairing machine is used, will the thread be tight or broken?** A: Adjusting the of the thread is crucial. Thread can break if : Disks are too tight,bobbin and where the bobbin sits are not polished. The hole where the needle goes in is too small (file or drill out bigger).
