I used this to scan in my slides from 40 years ago!

*by C***N on Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2017*

Why did I purchase this device? Because I had more than a thousand slides (Kodak 110 format) from my 1973-1975 mission in Queensland, Australia. They were not particularly useful in their slide format in those trays. I figured, "why not get them digitized". But there are other family slides in 35 mm format that I want to do as well. Having a service do it seemed prohibitive. I did not even know if the slides were in good condition after 40 plus years. I figured gambling $130 on this device was worth it. It seemed like it should work and this one seemed to offer what I needed. So, I took a shot.Did it work? Yes! The instructions it comes with are poor to worse than poor. But operating the device isn't that hard and I figured it out, at least what I needed to do, by trial and error. How does it work? There are five buttons on top. The red one in the back left is the power on off button. The OK button in the back right is used to select the step you want to take. The arrow buttons, left and right, flip the picture if you need to or move along menu items as you need to.The most important button is the SCAN/MENU item in the center front. It brings up the menu and is they means you use to tell the machine you want to scan the picture on the screen -- then you hit OK and it does it. I have not used all the menu selections, but here is what I had to figure out.First, you put the slides in the tray. It comes with two trays. Each tray holds four slides. There is an up and down for opening, and it does matter how you orient the slides in the tray. But you can figure it out. You can scan either negatives or slides. When I turned mine on the slides were in the inverted color so I assumed it was defaulted to negatives and figured out how to put it into slide mode. There is a also a resolution menu item. 14 or 22 megapixel. Choose which you prefer. If you store the slides in the internal memory you will fill up the memory between 30 and 40 slides. You then need to migrate the slides via the USB menu item and cable to your laptop or some other device. I just stuck them on my laptop and removed them from the scanner and then did the next batch. and repeated. There is one aspect to the scanner I have NOT figured out and hope maybe someone out there can help me. in the back of the device above the plug, there is a memory card slot. I purchased a SANDISK micro SD card with the adapter hoping it would make it easy to store the scanned slides and move them around. But when I stick the card in the scanner it freezes the device completely until I remove it. So, I can't use the memory card except to get the images from my laptop back to the memory card.I really like the scanner. Aside form the poor instruction sheet and my confusion over the memory card, I have had no problems with it and like it very much.Enjoy!
