## Overview

The CURT Manufacturing 56040 Wiring T-Connector is a custom-designed, plug-and-play trailer wiring harness for select Subaru models. It provides a reliable 4-flat trailer connector for tail, brake, and turn signals without any cutting or splicing. Built with advanced surface mount technology and a protective dust cover, it ensures durable, weather-resistant performance for hassle-free towing.

## Description

CURT custom wiring connectors are the easiest way to outfit your vehicle with a CURT trailer wiring connection. They are built with some of the most advanced technology in the industry, and each one is custom-fitted to work with a specific make and model. Some automotive manufacturers install a special socket on the vehicle to be used for vehicle-to-trailer wiring. Although this special socket is not equipped on every vehicle, a CURT custom wiring connector -- also called a T-connector -- utilizes the socket for simple, stress-free installation. Rather than requiring you to cut, splice and solder into your vehicle's wiring system, the custom wiring connector uses a single OEM-compatible plug and instantly provides a standard, universal vehicle-to-trailer wiring connection, typically in the form a 4-way flat. All CURT custom wiring connectors are made vehicle-specific for the easiest possible installation and the best fit. This particular plug-in connector provides a 4-way flat socket and is designed to be a custom wiring option for certain years of the Subaru Ascent, Forester, Outback, Crosstrek and XV Crosstrek (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware to establish a solid connection. It also comes with a dust cover to keep the connector socket clean when not in use. To ensure long-lasting reliability, all CURT custom wiring connectors are thoroughly tested for optimal functionality. Stress is the last thing you should feel when towing a trailer -- whether you're hauling your RV to that favorite camping destination, your ATVs up to the hunting grounds or your fishing boat to the new hidden hotspot. At CURT, we think your towing equipment should add to the enjoyment of your experience, not detract from it.

Review: Great Kit but there is a trick to finding the factory wiring in an Outback. - I just got finished installing this but I assume it will hold up. I installed it in a 2016 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited. I bought an ECO Hitch from Tork Lift Central and they sold this adapter as well. It was almost twice as expensive on their website so I bought mine here. If you are still looking for a hitch I highly recommend theirs. Much better looking than the other aftermarket options and I got a 2 inch receiver unlike the $800 plus one from the dealer. Installation isn't too bad until it is time to find the plug and make the connection. Most of the online installation videos gloss over this part. I read another review somewhere that mentioned removing the cargo tie down point behind the drivers side rear seat. The plug is basically right next to the opening. i used a flat blade screwdriver to break the tape and pull the plug out the hole. The other review also mentioned fishing the adapted wiring up from under the bottom of the trim panel and pulling it out if the hole too. Then you simply plug them in and pull the wiring back behind the trim panel. Right by where you pull the wiring out you will see a couple studs with nuts on them. I cut off the small ring terminal and attached the larger one provided in the kit. It fit perfectly over the stud so I removed the nut and attached it there. From here it is your preference what to do with the wiring. I tucked it up behind the trim panel and routed the wire under the foam panels under the floor to where the spare tire is. Another review mentioned making a short extension plug to run out from the spare tire compartment through a grommet that is located there. This way you won't risk damaging the end of the wiring kit. This will probably only be easy if you are removing the bumper to install the hitch.Hopefully this helps someone else like other reviews helped me. I recommend this kit and it seems well made. Plus they included the ring terminal I needed so I didn't even have to run to the store to buy anything else.
Review: Perfect for 2016 Outback - Our Subaru came with a hitch receiver but no electrical connections, which are necessary for even a small Uhaul trailer, so I bought this after reading an install guide online... and it works perfectly! The hardest part of the whole process is getting to the electrical plug behind the cargo bay side panel, but even that is pretty simple (tip: the two pieces of blue tape wrapped around the plug wires can be slipped off by hand, even if you can't get your head down there to see them). After that, you just plug this connector in, drill a small hole to attach the ground wire to the car frame, and stick the signal converter behind one of the panels (double-sided tape included). There is a rubber cap for the 4-pin connector, so you could technically leave it dangling out the back of the trunk, but it stashes nicely in the spare tire tray under the cargo area floor when not needed.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Where is connector located in 2015 Subaru Outback ?**
A: Not sure where it is in the 2015 Outback but in my 2009 Forester it was on the drivers side underneath the foam storage inserts in the trunk.

**Q: 2003 tacoma**
A: I can only say it worked great on my 2013 Subaru outback hope that helps

**Q: wear is the plug on a 2013 outback**
A: for a '15 crosstrek it's behind the trim panel covering the back of the driver side taillight, down near the floor. Had to remove the trim panel just inside of lower weatherstripping for lift gate first; I think the instructions indicated that for an outback it's farther forward, nearer the wheelwell.

**Q: Has anyone installed this in a 2015 Subaru Impreza?**
A: I was wondering the same thing, so I pulled the trim panels out of the back of my 2015 Impreza Sport Hatchback. Based on a video of the Crosstrek install of this part, there is a small white plug under the driver's side taillight in the Crosstrek that this plugs into. The plug is non-existent in my Impreza. I checked under the passenger side too just in case, but no luck.
