It was light enough that the kids (12 & 14) could keep up without any trouble, and strategic enough that us parents stayed interested, too. Not to give away too much, but there are some elements that allow for someone who is falling behind to make a massive comeback and get right back in the game, so everyone was always in the running. We're big fans of Catan and Carcassonne, so this game was right up our alley. My wife described it as a mix of "Magic the Gathering meets Clue". We learned it in one night, and the epic battle got rolling after just a few practice rounds.
