The design is a strong plastic holding container that can be filled with liquid or dry material. The cap snaps on securely and will protect it’s contents from rain and sun but the air vents located on the ground stake shaft will allow odor to release in the designated treatment area. These guards are discreet and small making them ideal for sensitive areas where children and pets might be active. More importantly, since the granules and liquid bait will be protected, you’re placements will last a lot longer. Essentially the guards will pay for themselves in less than a year. The holding tank is separated into two parts. Each side can hold up to 1.5 oz of liquid; 1-2 oz of granules. Review: Prior to buying I read the reviews and some claimed that the bait dispensers were difficult to open. I did not find them to be. There is an arrow on the base that you line up with the lid. An easy twist off. Fill the base, realign and twist to lock it shut. Easy to spike into the ground. I like the fact that the bait is contained and keeps it away from my dog who might go playing in the flowerbeds. Do not try to pop the lid off. Use a twisting motion and you should not have an issue. Holds a decent capacity as well which alleviates having to sprinkle bait around the house at intervals. I am satisified with this purchase. I mix some water, borax, and sugar, and put the mixture inside. Shake up somewhat so some drips down the stem to attract the ants. Within a few days, all the ants were gone. They work great and appears sturdy enough to last for many seasons.
