The screw cap is 3 1/2 inch. I would suggest just using a o-ring. You might try this 3-1/4 ID 1/8" thick o-ring, a little under sized so it should stretch over the threads and seal the gap when pinched when closed. I would not go with one much larger, you want a tight fit.
