Make no mistake, I love me some pit bull! I rescued one a year ago and have done extensive research on the breed. They are an incredibly loving breed and I can't imaginine my life without a pit with me ever again. And I want everybody to understand this highly misunderstood breed that is so abused.....Saying that, while this paticular book does expound on the positive aspects of the pittie - and there are so many! - it downplays some realities to a fault. According to this book all pits are "good" and accept other dogs. All pits have completely lost their innate passion to fight other dogs - UNTRUE!!!!!!! This book does a dis-service in that aspect.Many pits are subdued, love kittens and baby ducks and wouldn't hurt a flea. But MOST will act out towards other dogs. NEVER, EVER, EVER leave a pit alone with another dog. Respect this breed! Know what you have! After several centuries of being bred to fight other dogs (thanks to idiot humans), these dogs are not going to change. In the words of comic Chris Rock referring to the Vegas tiger attacking Sigfield of Sigfield and Roy - "People say that tiger went crazy! Huh! That tiger went TIGER"! Don't expect a pit not to be a pit - and pits will go after other dogs without being trained otherwise....pits go after humans then something is gravely WRONG....the breeding or raising has gone bad.Pits do not have jaws that lock. They do not. However, they can snap your neck, know that. Raise them properly. Monitor them, For God's sake, don't breed the most overbred dog there is - but if you slefishly must - be responible about it and use a good blood line and follow up on the pups.I love the fact this book does not demonize these sweet babies. This book also shows the true brilliance and love this breed does possess. I just think this book shows this breed with no fault - and with that is fault. Know the breed. Respect and care for accordingly. Perfect book or gift to give for a Pitty lover! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gorgeous photos, great stories. *by A***S on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 26, 2012* This was a great book for pit bull lovers, but also talks about what it means to love dogs of all breeds. There are touching profiles of rescues, failed fosters, canine helpers/workers, and dogs through history. The book is a quick read but I can see myself going back to it in the future just to share some of the stories and photos with friends. I loved that the author addressed BSL. Probably my only issue with the book was that I got the impression that the author was saying that things are turning around for bully breeds, and while I do feel that is partially true, it is my opinion that there is still so far to go that it seems a little to early to make that claim. However, the whole book has an encouraging and thoughtful tone of hope, so it really does align with that spirit. I also wish that the call out story pages would have come at a logical place in the reading order rather than in the middle of another story, but that was also a minor issue. This is a lovely book, and my doggies probably thought so too because they snuggled up next to me while I read it. My own pit pup was adopted from the humane society where they had labeled him a "shepherd mix" so he could be adopted in our area that has BSL and breed bans in place (the author actually mentions this practice of identifying a pit mix as a lab or shepherd mix to save more lives and allow placements). I will admit that before owning my dog, I actually worried about what I had heard about owning a pit bull, but my dog taught me that none of thise stereotypes were true. My pit is a big love who thinks he is a lapdog, and he loves my other two dogs and even the stray cats! He is loyal, playful, and a total bed hog.
