Review: Great product, does what it claims. - I own a 2003 Maxima and replaced the factory Bose head unit last year and somehow lost the audio signal to my sub and tweeters. (I still have the factory Bose amp (200W Max) and Bose door speakers.) I installed a Kicker 8" sub with a Kicker mono amp, and also bought new Pioneer tweeters and wired them directly to the head unit. While adding the new sub re-added some of the "oomph" to the bass that I lost, and now have some of the highs back with the new tweeters, I still find something "missing" from the sound that I had before the head unit was replaced. So I'm looking to upgrade the door speakers next and figured I'd do it right by installing some of this after doing some research. I started with the trunk lid, but was still somewhat skeptical of the results. After going for a drive I was very surprised at the reduced noise coming from the rear of the car. This stuff seems to really work. After also doing the front and rear doors with this stuff, my factory Bose speakers now have more full sound, better bass from the front speakers, and I really enjoy listening to the stereo now - especially with my iPhone's downloaded music. I can't believe the difference. Maybe its just me, but the car even sounds quieter now. I can crank up the music and still enjoy it. The only downside is now I can't figure out if I still need to replace the speakers and get a new amp. :) Dynamat is more expensive than some of the competitors - Hushmat, Noico, etc, but I can't comment if it is any better. I just know that this does what it claims. I didn't cover the entire door panel like I've seen in some videos as I didn't want to make it difficult to get at any door or electrical components in the event I have to replace something like a power window motor. But I did cover as much as I could of the metal on the four door panels as well as the inside of the exterior panels. After doing all those and the trunk lid, I still have 1.5 sheets left. Install was easy, just cleaned up the areas with mineral spirits. Xtreme also does not require using a heat gun to install like the regular Dynamat.
Review: Sound Improvement / Reduction - I bought this to improve the cab sound in my Dakota Quad Cab when I was installing new speakers (my wife blew out the old ones!!). It was very easy to work with and install. All I needed was a utility knife to cut the mat to the sizes I needed for the install. It will stay on after it is in place but it is forgiving on install. This means you can make adjustments with the piece you are working with before you roller it down. Using the roller tool (sold separately)was worth the price of admission. It definitely made install easier and was able to clear any air pockets as well as give excellent adhesion. RESULTS: After the install there was a quick difference that could be heard. First thing you noticed is that when the doors are closed they sound more like a luxury car door closing. No more hollow sound, they sounded more solid. The sound in the cab is reduced and this is noticeable when no radio is on. Road noise has been reduced and it is a much nicer environment. As for the music...much nicer listening and clearer due to no competing noises from the road. Everyone who enters the vehicle likes it and knows there is a difference. NOTES: I installed this on the inner door and the outer door. Some sites and installers will tell you this is unnecessary but if you are in the door why not. The thin sheet metal is all that is between you and the road. This pack covered two doors in the front. I bought two boxes to cover all four doors. It took one afternoon to install and it was complete. This is not a hard project at all. If you can get the door panels on and off you can install this product. Check what you might need and compare the 4 sheet and 9 sheet boxes. Most of the time 2 4 sheet boxes will be cheaper per square inch and get the job done.
