We bought a large for our 12 pound shih tzu and he fits in it perfectly. The tail cut out is great and the zippers make loading and unloading very easy. The problem we have is with the straps. They have great adjustability, but they really (REALLY) need padding (even for our little guy). I suggest buying pads for your shoulders before trying any kind of lengthy hike or you'll be very uncomfortable.
