It's a fairly light, soft material though I'd consider it more of a light taupe than a gray color. It was easy to install. I drilled a small hole with 1/16" bit before screwing in the bolt by hand. Nice and clean. Due to the internal support in my tenor Gretsch G9121, it was easy to place the bolt centered at the base of the uke, ensuring that it was nowhere near the electronics and giving it a nice, secure feel. This is SO much nicer to play with than the kind that clips to the soundhole. I play my uke while leading for a band and the other kind never felt as secure as this one. Now I can just focus on playing and singing instead of worrying about dropping my instrument! Definitely worth it at this price. I may pick up another for my concert uke!
