Review: Amazing mini-streamer with plenty of features and great sound - I bought this little streamer in order to add Tidal Connect to my stereo setup (Cambridge Audio Minx Xi and Q Acoustics Concept 20) in my conservatory. I was considering replacing my amplifier with a Bluesound Powernode to get the same functionality but saw the WiiM Mini on the Tidal support site and thought I would give it a go. I am really glad I did as it does everything I need and saved me nearly £750 to boot! It is simple to set up, although the app does take a little getting used to. It also comes with all the connector cables you need - I didn't realise this and bought a Toslink cable as well, which is now going spare. You will need a USB power adapter as a suitable cable is included but not the mains plug itself. I have a USB outlet on the extension lead I use so that was simple enough! Sound quality is very good, more than good enough for where it is being used and good enough for a main system, although true audiophiles may want something a little more detailed in the midrange. I used to use Tidal HiFi over Bluetooth to my amp, but it sounded a bit thin in bass and midrange when compared to Spotify, even though the data rate was much higher. The WiiM Mini has totally changed that and the higher quality of the Tidal CD quality tracks is really noticeable when compared to the current Spotify Connect service. Tidal MQA Master quality is due to be available after the firmware update in May so that is going to be a quantum leap in terms of sound quality; I can't wait!! Internet radio is also clearer through the WiiM Mini than the tuner in my amp, although the difference isn't as marked as with Tidal/Spotify. The app allows you to set up to 6 stations as presets, but I am still working my way through all the options and using the Internet radio function in my amp for the time being. I would thoroughly recommend the WiiM Mini to anyone looking to add music streaming to their existing system. It will not be embarrassed in the presence of kit costing a few thousand pounds, which is amazing for something costing less than £100.
Review: 4.7 stars. ALMOST the perfect Hi-Res music streamer. - What a great little hockey puck sized doofer this is. Was looking everywhere for a decent priced streamer to complement my free desertcart Music HD trial. Tried the Echo Link, but had to return due to it down sampling everything to CD quality. In itself not a car crash, and it's a decent bit of kit, but i wanted the FULL Hi-Res experience. I stumbled across CheapAudioMan's review of this little beauty after watching his synopsis of the Echo Link (which he rated), but this baby was 47 quid cheaper at time of buying and is so much better musically! It isn't quite as good in terms of back panel (no ethernet input and no RCA or co-axial output) or aesthetics as the Echo Link (i liked the look of the Echo Link with its led lit knob and it's quirky half-a-box-of-tissues size). The Wiim Mini does have good wifi connectivity (once i realised i had to disable my VPN!) and it passes the signal through at full hi-res (i think!) via the optical output. I successfully listened to KD Lang's Ingenue album (via my Marantz PM6007's DAC) at 24bit and 196khz and it is just sumptuous on my Fyne Audio speakers (and even better on my Beyerdynamic headphones). Every guitar pluck, every piano key hit is just THERE. I moved on to Radiohead's OK Computer (OKNOTOK) in 24/96 and what a great sound stage! Other artists that i tried that have a great max hi-res (24/196) quality back catalogue include Neil Young, Tori Amos and Coldplay - all sounding excellent. I will be looking for others. I have NOT had a chance to test the built in DAC as I have no need given I have a very good one already available to me, and I feel an off-board, quality DAC is the way to go with this little treasure. Overall, I am really pleased with my Wiim mini. HOWEVER, i will be returning back to desertcart due to lack of Ethernet, RCA and Co-Axial as mentioned earlier. FEAR NOT! I recommended this whole heartedly (as long as you have your own decent Digital To Audio converter - i.e. in this case it has to be an optical input - on your amp). PLUS i have ordered the Wiim Pro (c£160) that does EXACTLY what i want from desertcart.com in the US and it's coming next week :-). This should be available in the UK/Europe at some stage but i couldn't wait after hearing this magic little disc. The 0.3 stars are dropped due to a slightly clunky app for linking to the desertcart Music catalogue (which amongst other things doesn't show streaming quality on the menus unlike on the actual desertcart app) and the back panel limitations. I will be looking for better ways of controlling (Roon?) when my Wiim Pro arrives. Don't think twice about buying this bit of kit if you already have a decent DAC equipped amplifier. BUT do contemplate getting the Pro version from the States, or waiting until it's supplied over here. UPDATE: My Wiim Pro arrived from the states and is just wonderful. AND ive decided to keep the Mini (as it is just too cute) and use it upstairs so i can listen on both and have whole house music... happy days!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this work with my wifi hard drive ?**
A: If your wifi hard drive has upnp or dlna support, not sure otherwise.

**Q: I currently use appletv with a ifi go blu (bluetooth). i wondered if the wiim 3.5mm output can be used for headphones and quality?**
A: I use one with studio headphones and airplay2. Sounds good.

**Q: If I connect this to my turn table ...would it stream to my Sonos Arc?**
A: No, although a future update may do that.

**Q: Do i need a separate dac for this, or can i use it with the normal phono inputs on my (non digital) axa35 amp?**
A: This unit has its own DAC, But I use the DAC that is part of my amplifier as I prefer the sound.
If you use the internal DAC you connect to the unit with the 3.5mm jack, to use an external DAC use the optical out port using a tos cable.
