My intent was to plug this into the back of my DVR which runs hot inside the cabinet. I was thinking that once the power was turned off on the DVR that the fan would shut off. Hmm... Didn't work that way. So, now I am going to have to buy some sort of thermostat power switch to kick on when the temp gets to a certain point and shut off when it is lowered. As of right now, the fan is in an always on state even if the DVR is off.I did have a little difficulty installing this. If you don't have a whole lot of tools like me, you will probably spend a considerable amount of time installing this. I had to go buy a Dremmel tool to cut a hole in the back of the cabinet to the perfect fit for the unit. You don't get a template with this unit, so you will have to make your own. I unscrewed the housing and metal mesh from the front of the unit so that I could get the exact size of the fan body itself. I layed the fan body on a piece of paper, traced around it with a sharpie, and then cut out the shape in the paper. I then taped the paper template I created to the back of the cabinet and traced around the template to get a rough outline of the unit. I then took the dremmel tool, and cut along the tracing. I cut just inside the traced line so that the fit was just snug. I didn't want any rattling, so I thought that being snug would be best. After making the initial cut and removing the unwanted piece, I fit checked the body of the fan. I couldn't fit it in, so I switched bits on the dremmel to a sander and sanded off the spots that were making it tight. Fit checked it again, and boom, it fit perfect like a glove. I screwed on the mesh housing again and fit the unit back in the hole. Now, to get the holes for the installation screws, I took a drill with a 3/8 bit, and drilled a pilot hole for the screws. Screwed the four screws in tight. Plugged it all in, and the unit is whisper quiet. Better yet, my cabinet is very cool now and not smokin hot like it was. Great product. Thanks... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Solution To Cool Your AV Cabinet *by D***N on Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2011* If you don't build computers, you probably don't know Yate Loon as a respected brand of reliable, quiet cooling fans.That's why I was thrilled to see a ready-made Yate Loon fan pre-installed with a mesh grill in a mounting panel complete with a 120V to 4-pin Molex converter in a single, ready-to-use kit. The kit comes completely pre-installed. All you need is to mount it (buy your own screws) and plug it in.For my all wood AV cabinet, I had to cut a hole and purchase four screws from my local hardware store. I even purchased a  Smart Strip SCG4 Energy Saving Power Strip with Autoswitching Technology and Fax/Modem Surge Protection  so the fan would only turn on when I turned on the stereo components.Even without the intelligent switched power strip, the fan running 24/7 makes so little noise that you'd need to be within 6-8" to even hear it. This item worked so well to keep an Xbox game console cool in a closed AV chamber, I purchased 2 more to keep all three bays of my AV cabinet cool (much better - and smaller - than the  Antec Low Profile AV Component Cooler for Media PC Home Theater Products  `stacked' cooler).TIP: Plan for 1" of clearance for the depth of the fan. If you mount it in the side of a cabinet, be sure there's 1" of space for the full 5" height and width (above and below).Placed on the back of most AV cabinets, they are out of sight, impossible to hear and already a nice black color that will match well with most black cardboard panels on the back of many AV cabinets. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Fan Failure after less than 6 months: Updated- Great Customer Service after the sale! *by S***Y on Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2012* I purchased this product to cool an entertainment center that housed my Uverse modem, Uverse receiver, computer and audio receiver. The small space was getting very warm with the door closed so I thought a fan would cool it sufficiently. This fan was great, very quiet and kept everything cooled. Fan ran nearly silent, couldn't hear it from more than 5 feet away. I was happy with the purchase, until it started making noise after about a month. A little noise is OK so I didn't think twice until it stopped working and the equipment was getting hot again. At about 5 months in the fan would work for a few minutes then stop or work for a couple hours but make a lot of noise. You can hear it speed up and slow down from across the room. My experience with this fan may not be the norm but I am not satisfied with the product and will not recommend to anyone.Contacted seller, they offered to replace the fan. I will update if they send a replacement and it has shown to be durable.The seller replaced the fan at no charge and even covered shipping.
