One book intended for parents and the other for students. Reading this book gave us peace of mind before our son went off to college. There's a lot of helpful information to prepare parents and their sons and daughters for their first year away from home and from each other. We tabbed a number of topics and used those as conversation starters with our son. There were times when our son needed more time to think through some of the information. Once we brought up the topics again, he had ideas and questions about how to handle a few situations. From the info in the book and knowing our son's shyness, we stressed finding people and places he could go to when times became stressful and for good clean fun. For our son, those turned out to be people in two church affiliated groups, faculty members, on-campus professional organizations, a campus job, and new friends with similar interests. Fortunately, he and his roommate became friends but it did take a few months. We think he became too busy to become lonely. Our son refused to read the companion book that we bought for him the summer before he went off to live in the dorm. He read it after his first year away.
