The fabric is definitely cotton, but has a refined texture that reminds me of a cotton-linen blend. A very lightweight, breathable blanket that will be perfect for hot summer nights, although it could possibly be used as a spread over heavier blankets. I washed it before using; it did not shrink or do anything else that some reviewers claim cotton blankets do. It's important to remember that cotton does shed lint when washed, it is more likely to snag than other fabrics are, and cotton has a rougher feel to it than the modern microfibers do. Those are the realities of cotton. A huge plus is how natural cotton feels when compared to, say, sleeping under microfiber. Cotton is excellent for people who tend to be warm sleepers. As for the color I ordered (taupe), it's a medium beige. It is not rosy, yellow, or grey, but is a true neutral beige. One side of the blanket is a slightly light beige, the other side a slightly more medium beige. The two sides are almost the same color. This blanket has a border that gives it a finished, classy appearance.
