So using a charger will lessen the wear on it. It works great. It unfortunately does not fast charge even though the Nexus 6 has that ability through usb. Apparently, it really only works with certain Samsung phones.Beyond that, and especially considering the price point, it has worked great. I have a thin case on my phone but it isn't hard to find a spot that charges. The unit lights up immediately when the phone is in the right spot (lower half of the phone for me) and starts charging about a second later. Every time it lights up, it charges; no false flashes. The pads has enough grip that is doesn't slide around so you can use your phone easily while it is charging.It also stays cool and has never gotten hot. The light shuts off after about 5 seconds, so no annoying lights at night. Sometimes it takes a few attempts to get the correct position.
