All my life I've been a social outcast, always hovering around the edges of the crowd without ever quite fitting in. I've told myself for pretty much forever that it was by choice, and I don't think that's entirely untrue. A lot of it HAS been by choice. But that has never meant I didn't want to be likable, or capable of making friends and keeping them. My struggles in this area have really only been instilled on a deeper level because my husband is the kind of guy that everyone instantly likes.And I mean instantly!!!He got it from his dad, who is capable of walking into an elevator with a random group of people, and hop off 5 floors later, making chatty comments through the closing doors about how he's sure that ugly business split they're going through will work out fine. People trust my husband. People love my husband. And so it's always been easier to just continue standing off to the side in the shadows.I really do believe there is something for everyone in this book. Every person that is struggling in some capacity with social interactions, and being likable. The part that helped me the most in this book was that it's all based on science. It's not really even social skill. It's the ability to understand a scientific concept, and put it into practice.If you're looking for help socially, and want to understand the science behind being likable, get this book! A.number of the ideas are common sense and not very surprising however some ideas are interesting and are not apparent unless you take the time to reflect. The narrator was heinous. I finished the book and I'm not sure if it was a robot or a human. It sounded wrong, like sintetized voice failing spectacularly in imprint emotions in sentences. Sounded like an agonizing dying metal bird.On the other hand, the content is better than I expected. Quite robust in scientific references and straight to the point. Felt a couple chapters were a bit silly; should be better explored or edited out (eg; leadership chapter).
