Is it or is it not?** A: In my experience, they are generally microwave safe for short periods of time. I’ve never put microwaved mine for more than about two minutes. I see more warping in the dishwasher than the microwave. Over time, the rubber gasket comes out and it gets difficult to replace. The lids get warped as well as the larger single section containers. They still work well, but it’s harder to make sure the lid locks tightly. I’m general, I absolutely love my Sistema. I use them for packing lunches, picnics, and for road trip snacks. **Q: The lid is not detachable. So how to use this in microwave without lid?** A: The lid is detachable. The hinges interlock and snap together. I remove the lids to make the containers fit easier when washing in the top rack of the dishwasher. It’s very compact but fits a lot of food for my 5 yr old, plus it fits easily into my kids lunchbox alongside her 14oz water bottle. A lot of leakproof bento boxes are rectangular because the compartments do not stack like one. But then it doesn’t leave any room for a water bottle inside the lunchbox. This sistema bento box is great because it has substantial size compartments because the walls/dividers are not thick which leaves more room for food! I do not think this is type of container will have leakproof compartments but if you have something that needs to be sealed separately, it includes a small container with a screw on lid that FITS into the bento box! How easy is that!? It’s dishwasher friendly and has one latch closure for easy access for my kid, so she won’t have to deal with hard to open latches or too many latches. Happy customer thus far and I plan to buy another.
