No, you can't activate a "compatible" sensor. Yes, you can read compatible/OEM sensors. I utilized the OBD2 read method and wrote the IDs into the sensors one by one. Take care not to have the unwritten sensors too near the device. I stashed the unwritten sensors in a metal box and 15 feet away for good measure.
