I taped both sides of the slots that are open, and positioned it to baffle the air and direct it up. He is in HEAVEN! Works perfectly, well made plastic, easy to switch positions and even unscrew the pieces that attach to hold it in place and reposition so it faces the other direction. On disgustingly hot nights when you want that cold air blowing on you, you can just adjust the deflector out of the way. Too cold, push it back down. My girlfriend loves being able to tilt the deflector so that some air gets through, but most gets deflected up.
