Setting the timer appears to be easy but I didn't leave it on long enough to check that it works. The light works both on battery and plugged in. Even though the green is brighter/lighter than I thought it would be I still want to try again so I've requested a new one from desertcart and will update when I receive a new one. Hopefully this was just a dud, I want the next one to work! Edit: new one had no charge, dents, scratches or dirt. After charging for half an hour to 45 minutes not working, I picked it up to move it and it started pumping water. Did the same for the last one so maybe it just takes a long while and my first was a dud. However, the pump started making a loud humming noise which was distracting to me. It's the same type of noise that sometimes develops with aquarium pumps.
